The Bazflyers airplane of choice for long distance flying is a Piper Comanche. Powered by a Lycoming IO-540 engine, this modernised and refurbished airplane has been at the centre of Barry and Sandra’s life style for the past ten years. It has taken them to many a nook and cranny around New Zealand, Australia and the South West Pacific region.
Registered ZK-BAZ, the Piper Comanche when not in the air resides at the ‘BAZBase’ on Taupo Airport (NZAP) located beside great Lake Taupo in the centre of New Zealand’s North Island.
ZK-BAZ has seven fuel tanks with a total fuel capacity of 140 US gallons (530 litres). Standard fuel provides a cruise range of up to 1,450 NM (2,680 KM) at 155 KTS (290 KM/HR).
